Shimmer and Shine is a hit preschool Nickelodeon series featuring a little girl named Leah and her twin genies-in-training named Shimmer and Shine. Each day, Shimmer and Shine grant Leah three wishes. The wishes don’t always go as smoothly as they plan, though – after all, they’re still in training – and the girls must clean up the magical mess that results from the issues. When Shimmer, Shine and Leah work together they are able to solve the problems that arise and make things right. Trying to correct their mistakes helps to teach young viewers about learning from mistakes and doing better next time.
While working as a Post-Production Supervisor on Dora The Explorer and Go, Diego, Go!, Farnaz Esnaashari dreamed of making her own preschool series. Inspired by her Iranian-American upbringing, she wanted the series to have strong female heroes set against a vibrant multicultural fantasy world. As a mother of two young kids, Farnaz sees the importance of empowering children with an understanding of resilience.
Through the series, kids see that even though the outcome may not be exactly what they wished for, there is always a way to figure things out!
